The solution of SRT is primarily for ideal for 1on1 connections, over a direct network, I'm sure you can have it routed, though. It's pretty simple to use as a nonimplementor: get a streaming client, ffmpeg or OBS works fine, and then have whoever you wish to send video to begin listening:

mpv --no-cache --profile=low-latency srt://:port/?mode=listener

Run that in a loop if you're going for reliability and ease of use.

And stream then to

ffmpeg -f x11grab -video_size 1920x1080 -framerate 30 -i :0.0+1920,0 -c:v libx264 -preset ultrafast -tune zerolatency -g 30 -sc_threshold 0 -f mpegts \
"srt://their-ip:port?mode=caller"

The latency is ~1-5s depending on your regioning and Shinternet.

Make sure that port is accessible. This excludes audio because my testing failed for it -- or perhaps it was so low latency that I couldn't tell. parts are:

-f pulse -i default -c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 48000

No idea if that works, good luck fat boy.

Here's an ffmpeg command that works for JACK:

-f jack -i ffmpeg -af "asetrate=48000,aresample=48000" -c:a libopus -b:a 128k -ar 48000

Change -i for your particular wiring needs.

You can do this in reverse after making the initial connection using the same port on the remote machine with no additional effort. Bidirectional video is just that easy.

The easiest way to actually set this up and have everything work reliably is to have a OpenVPN setup such that both peers can route together. I recommend OBS, unless you're super autistic with Gentoo.

You can and should use IPv6. It makes this all trivial.
